Well, first off thank you for even being here reading this. We take a lot of pride in trying to make a connection over what is now a digital world. So we hope this gives you a little more insight into who we actually are and why we even care to tell you all this!

Crafted on the California coast, OSLAR California is a lifestyle brand built on craftsmanship, authenticity, and community. We create high quality, California-made products that capture the spirit of vintage culture and timeless design. Every piece is thoughtfully made, from the cut of a vintage-inspired tee to the texture of a bag, carrying forward a sense of care that’s rare in the modern world.

At its core, OSLAR is about connection. Between people, the ocean, and the objects that surround us. We believe in slowing things down, honoring process over mass production, and creating goods that feel lived-in from the start. Inspired by the coastlines of Encinitas, Malibu, and beyond, our products are designed to age beautifully and tell their own stories over time.

Through limited collections, handcrafted products, and collaborative projects with local artists and creatives, OSLAR celebrates the culture that raised us — surf, art, and the quiet details that make life what it is.

With love & care always,

OSLAR California

About Owen Hunter

Owen Hunter is the founder and creative director behind OSLAR California and everything that it has become. Growing up in San Diego, specifically Leucadia, he was surrounded by surfing, art, and music from a young age and has kept that at the forefront of his life these past 22 years. He remembers all the early mornings heading for a surf, listening to Neil Young with his old man, which has now turned into a short walk, singing to himself or having chats with his family.

During high school he started his first real brand endeavor, which was under the label SunnySide Surfboards. After spending nearly four years working on this project, it was time to lay it to rest. He stated that, “It felt like it started to become about the money, and that’s the last thing I care about. I want to create and bring an actual experience to someone and build a community, and it was straying from that.” After about an 11-month break from brand work while working towards completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in San Luis Obispo, that itch was stronger than ever. He was thinking every day about starting something new that felt genuine to him and what he believes in as a person, friend, and creative.

This everyday thinking ended up turning into what was OSLAR at the time but has recently transformed into OSLAR California. From well before the first collection, he knew the work it takes to build something like this. Day by day, he instantly started working towards what it could be. Releasing his first collection with OSLAR months later, he worked with his friend Kai Diehl to put together a beautiful shoot with the first run of products, and since then it’s been a go. After the third volume was released, the shift from OSLAR to OSLAR California happened. Hunter wanted to make it known that from here on out everything was going to be sourced and made in the USA, sourcing local fabrics, hats, creating bags, etc.

He said his goal still stands: building a community that brings people together and allows people to share genuine interests. He plans to release his fifth collection for OSLAR California in September.

That little kid heading to the beach, listening to those wonderful tunes with his old man, still sits deeply in his everyday actions in life and with the brand. He lets it be known that it’s not all himself doing this either; he has a wonderful group of friends and family in San Diego, San Luis Obispo, his dear friend Jim Olarte, and his lovely lady, helping him bring this all together.

Thank you all from the bottom of all of our hearts. Just the beginning here.
